There’s a line in the movie Broadcast News when Paul says to Jane quite sarcastically, “You’re just absolutely right and I’m absolutely wrong?” Jane nods. Paul says, “It must be nice to always believe you know better. To think you’re always the smartest person in the room.” And with a wistful look in her eye Jane says with such sincerity, “No, it’s awful.”
Sometimes Scott will tilt his head like a dog who just heard something far away that only he can hear and he’ll look at me with these sad eyes and I know he’s feeling sorry for me because I’m just so stupid. It’s the same look I get from the girls – all the time.
But what they don’t know is that I’m actually the smartest one in the room and Jane’s right, it is awful.
